First-half - first Nantwich goal - James Lawrie (1)

Nantwich Town stayed in touch with the leading teams in BetVictor Northern Premier League with a crushing 4-0 defeat of Ashton United.

The Dabbers cruised to victory with Ricardo Fuller getting on the scoresheet for the first time since re-joining the club.

Nantwich began well and caused the hosts problems with their pacy attacked led by Callum Saunders and Sean Cooke.

And it was former Crewe Alex man Saunders who earned the first goal when he was brought down in the box.

Jamie Lawrie stepped up and coolly slotted the ball in off the post giving the home keeper no chance on 17 minutes.

Nantwich could have had a second on 27 minutes with a fine move as Lawrie, Walsh and Cooke combined well, Cooke finally firing into the side netting.

Ashton had their own chances but then were severely dented when Andrew Howarth was given a straight red card on 38 minutes for a badly mis-timed challenge.

Any hopes of a comeback for the 10-men of Ashton were snuffed out five minutes after the break when Saunders doubled Nantwich’s advantage.

Troy Bourne delivered a fine cross and Saunders stooped low ahead of the defence to direct a fine header into the net.

To their credit, Ashton continued to press but were punished on 73 minutes when Saxon beat the defence and found Saunders who rolled the ball into an empty net.

Former Stoke City star Fuller added the gloss to the scoreline four minutes later to make it 4-0.

He showed his class with a cheeky finish, scoring from a narrow angle through Ashton’s hapless keeper.

Nantwich had further chances to score as they cruised to a comfortable victory.

The Dabbers are now in sixth place on 26 points, from 14 games, nine points behind leaders South Shields but with two games in hand.

They face a tough fixture next Saturday November 30 away at fourth-placed Warrington.

Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
