Former Crewe & Nantwich MP Edward Timpson could make a comeback as Conservative candidate for neighbouring Eddisbury constituency, writes Stephen Topping.
Mr Timpson, who lost his Crewe & Nantwich seat to Laura Smith in 2017 election, is being considered with two others to be the Tory candidate for Eddisbury.
Graham Evans, former Weaver Vale MP, is also in the running to be candidate for the December 12 poll.
The third potential candidate is Simon Eardley, a Cheshire West and Chester councillor.
The candidate will be chosen at a selection meeting tomorrow night (November 7).
The selection is taking place following Antoinette Sandbach’s defection to the Liberal Democrats.
The new Tory candidate will take on Ms Sandbach as well as Labour candidate Terry Savage, Nicholas Goulding of the Brexit Party and a Green Party candidate who is yet to be confirmed.
Eddisbury covers parts of west Nantwich as well as a large rural areas stretching from Audlem in the south, Bicketon and Bulkeley in the west, and to Alpraham and Tarporley in the north.
Acton and new housing developments such as Kingsbourne in Nantwich also sit in the Eddisbury constituency.
Oddly we have a Labour MP in Crewe who is a remainer in a constituency who voted leave?. A conflict of interests of you ask me. I welcome Edward Timpson back because he did a good job last time.
It would be great to see Edward Timpson back and hope he gets the selection for the Eddisbury seat

As a firm Leave voter ie part of the majority, I would be torn between a desire to endorse the Brexit Party but, in doing so, potentially enabling the debacle of a Corbyn era via the back door, and voting for the Tories who, have nonetheless, allowed a biased undemocratic Parliament to thwart the will of the people. ?
Who’s Laura Smith? Mr Timpson would be a welcome sight back in the area much better than the non representative Ms Sandbach

Is Laura Smith still representing Crewe and Nantwich? So quiet that it’s easy to forget she is our MP. Not sure what (if anything) Laura has achieved for us in the past 2 years? Mr Thompson would be a welcome candidate in the forthcoming election.
I couldn’t agree more. Irrespective of your politics, Mr Timpson was very evident, and a good MP. I can’t say the same for Laura Smith, who should, rightly, be tarred with the BREXIT debacle and sacked for not fulfilling the will of the people ie ensuring we are out of the EU.
Totally disagree, our village approched Eddie Timpson to help with our campaign to stop housing development. Nice man, totally useless. He did loads to profile himself in the local area, always in photoshoots etc but there is a reason he lost last time. I’m not particularly a fan of Laura Smith but if you follow your politics she’s certainly involved.
Matt, I accept your point. You will make your judgement based on experience. On this occasion, more than ever, I will make a decision in the national interest. Corbyn must not he alloes to get his hands on the keys of power.
With the EU results and so many Conservatives switching, it’s certainly going to be a two horse race between Sandbach and whoever the Conservatives find to stand
