Blood Brothers at Lyceum

The internationally-acclaimed production of Blood Brothers is breaking records after becoming the best-selling week-long show ever at Crewe Lyceum Theatre.

The Lyceum record was broken days ahead of its opening on Tuesday.

Willy Russell’s masterpiece, which runs at the theatre until Saturday, has reached the pinnacle of popularity with visitors to the venue – smashing all box office records in its history.

The musical stars Lyn Paul, who is reprising the iconic role of Mrs Johnstone on a highly emotional farewell tour.

Over the show’s five-day run in Crewe, the theatre will welcome more than 4,000 people to watch the captivating and moving story of twins, separated at birth, who meet again with fateful consequences.

Theatre Director for Crewe Lyceum Theatre Adam Knight, said: “We are delighted Blood Brothers has cemented itself in the Lyceum’s history as its best-ever selling week-long show.

“This timeless and stellar production continues to win the hearts of audiences here in Cheshire and we are thrilled to have it return it once more.

“Our intimate and beautiful auditorium is the perfect setting for award-winning West End musicals and drama such as this and we are immensely proud to be able to offer an ever- impressive line-up of top quality entertainment for audiences in Cheshire and North Staffs.”

Blood Brothers is part of a full autumn and winter drama season leading into 2020.

In December the theatre plays host to a five-day run of Nigel Slater’s Toast, and in the spring the chilling tale of The Woman in Black as well as drama Jane Eyre, renowned choreographer Gary Clarke’s ‘blisteringly fierce’ (The Herald) Wasteland, and Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story.

Also just announced is Willy Russell’s Educating Rita which embarks on a new UK tour in the spring and comes to Crewe in April.

This highly-acclaimed British comedy tells the story of married hairdresser Rita and her life-changing journey after enrolling on a university course and meeting tutor Frank, a brilliant academic and dedicated drunk who’s less than enthusiastic about taking her on.

This hilarious and heart-warming comedy won the Olivier Award when it was produced in London’s West End and was adapted into the multi award-winning film starring Julie Walters and Michael Caine.

The Lyceum Theatre has continued to move from strength to strength since HQ Theatres & Hospitality took on operation on behalf of Cheshire East Council in 2013.

Blood Brothers runs at Crewe Lyceum Theatre until Saturday November 9.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
