Detectives called an aggravated burglary at a house in Leighton “terrifying” and are appealing for help to trace the knife-wielding offender.
The incident happened when the offender knocked on the front door of a house in Bodnant Close and claimed to be delivering a takeaway.
When the door was opened, the offender barged his way inside the house and threatened the homeowner with a knife.
The offender then assaulted the man, stole his mobile phone and a quantity of cash and fled on foot in an unknown direction.
It happened at around 9.15pm on Wednesday August 28.
The man is described as white, aged 35-45, approximately 6ft tall.
He had a large build, medium length blondish hair and was clean shaven.
He was wearing a red and blue short sleeved checked shirt, cream coloured knee-length shorts and was carrying a white plastic carrier bag.
Detective Sergeant Dave Jarvis, of Crewe CID, said: “This was a terrifying incident that has understandable left the victim extremely shaken up.
“It has also left him with minor injuries that required hospital treatment.
“I would like to reassure the community that we are doing everything we can to try to identify the offender and bring him to justice.
“Enquiries are ongoing and I urge anyone who was in the area and believes that they may have seen the offender, either before he carried out the burglary or as he was fleeing the scene, to contact the team here at Crewe CID.
“The same goes for anyone who believes that they may know who the offender is, or have CCTV or dashcam footage of him.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to urge residents to use their door chain, if they have one, when answering the door.
“If you don’t have a door chain ask the caller who they are through the door before opening it.
“If you don’t know them and are not expecting them then don’t open the door. They may not be who they say they are.
“If they claim to be calling round in relation to their job ask to see their ID. Do not call any numbers they give you – find a number in the phone book or online.
“If you have any doubts or concerns regarding an unexpected doorstep caller ask them to come back another time when you are not alone.”
