Passengers had to be evacuated after a fire broke out on a train between Nantwich and Crewe.
The incident happened as the train travelled through Willaston yesterday (Sunday May 19) at around 10.30am.
Four fire engines were sent to tackle the blaze on the line just off Wistaston Road – one attended from Nantwich, one attended from Audlem and two from Crewe.
They were called out to reports of a fire coming from the back of the travelling train.
The line was stopped temporarily on both directions by Network Rail and passengers were evacuated as a safety precaution.
A cordon was put in place before crews used a hose reel jet and a covering jet to extinguish the fire.
Firefighters then checked for hot spots and used a thermal imaging camera before handing the incident to Network Rail.
Cheshire fire and rescue said the fire is believed to have involved the engine compartment of the train.
