The 40th annual ‘Marbury Merry Days’ two-day traditional country fair proved a hit with hundreds of families, writes Jonathan White.
The fair is organised by St Michael & All Angels Parochial Church Council and takes places in the field next to the church and Marbury Big Mere, near Wrenbury, Nantwich.
Marbury Merry Days was officially opened by the Cheshire Dairy Queen Hannah Goodwin and Dairy Maid Becky Holman who arrived in a heritage Bentley Motors car.
The main attraction this year was The Sealed Knot represented by Sir George Lisle’s Regiment of Foote and friends.
The Regiment brought the English Civil War conflict to life with drill displays, skirmishes and a living history settlement from this turbulent period in our history.
Other attractions and events included a grand draw, bric-a-brac & book stall, cake stall, refreshments, Cygnet Bar, ice cream, a craft & gift fair, trade stands, a classic cars, tractors and motorbike display.
There was a children’s activity area, Whitchurch WW1 re-enactment group display, model aircraft flying display from and over Marbury Big Mere, classic car parade, GLOs Dance & Cheer Troupe, Farndon & District Brass Band, Maypole dancing by Wrenbury School, Pixton Puppets, dog & terrier racing, and a Fun Dog Show.
The Fun Dog Show classes were puppy (4-12 months), veteran (over 7 years), any breed pedigree, rescue dog, young handler, mixed breed and best biscuit catcher! Steve Leonard was the judge.
Attractions inside St Michael’s & All Angels Parish Church included a spinning demonstration and floral decorations.

Marbury Merry Days was enjoyed in dry and sunny weather by hundreds of people over the weekend.
Proceeds go towards the upkeep of the St. Michael & All Angels Parish Church in Marbury.
