Unsung heroes, organisations and youngsters were honoured at the Nantwich Salt of the Earth Awards, backed by local organisations including Nantwich News Directory.
Many gathered at the popular annual award-giving ceremony in Nantwich Civic Hall as honours were handed out last night (February 16).
Among the winners were community police officers, a former headteacher, volunteers, tutors, performers and businesses who have all contributed to the success of the town.
And there was a special award for Doug Butterill, presented with an Outstanding Contribution Award by North West In Bloom for his 40 years of work in the town.
The Community Volunteer Award winner was Bob Hope, a volunteer organiser and co-ordinator of Nantwich Table Tennis Group.
Bob also helps Circle of Friends dementia group, as well as organising quizzes and other events in the town.
The Inspiration Award was awarded to the three popular Nantwich Police officers Matt Stonier, Marc Harley and Ian Bennett, and also Dawn Foster one of Nantwich’s Street Cleaner team.
Supporting Children Award went to Victoria Palethorpe, who runs Nantwich Young Voices.
The Rising Star award was won by Phoebe Crewe, a local singer, who performed a stunning live set during the evening (watch part of her performance, here)
The Young Achiever Award went to two pupils from Malbank School – Louise Latham and Jessica Doano – who spend their spare time volunteering, caring and raising money for good causes.
The Outstanding Organisation Award went to Nantwich Methodist Church for the their Don’t Be On Your Own at Christmas event.
And the Nantwich News Directory-sponsored Business In the Community Award went to Direct Access – a Nantwich firm run by profoundly deaf Steven Mifsud who employs disabled employees to provide consultancy and work with organisations to improve disabled access.
The Community Sports Award went to Nantwich Cricket Club, for the club’s amazing successes in 2018.
And the final award of the evening was the Mayor’s Recognition Award which was presented to Andrew Cliffe, former Brine Leas School headteacher, who led the school for many years.
Each award-winner gave a moving speech during the evening, watched by hundreds of guests including family, friends and colleagues.
