Detail from a picture by Les Pickford of soldiers approaching Nantwich during the Civil Wars

Nantwich Museum is running a new course focussed on the English Civil Wars following the success of an evening class last year.

Entitled “The Civil Wars in Cheshire”, the five-week course takes place on Thursday evenings between October 4 and November 1.

It aims to provide an understanding of the local war.

Course tutor Dr Keith Lawrence will cover the arrival of the war in Cheshire in 1642, and the lead up to the Siege of Nantwich.

It will also study the campaign of the ‘Irish Royalist Army’ in 1643, the Barthomley Massacre of December 1643, the Siege and 1644 Battle of Nantwich, and finally the Siege of Chester and Sir William Brereton’s search for support.

The cost is £50, which includes course materials and refreshments.

Early booking is recommended.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
