mayor at 50th anniversary of south cheshire model engineering society

Nantwich Mayor David Marren joined in the 50th anniversary celebrations of the South Cheshire Model Engineering Society.

The society held a gala event at its headquarters behind the Peacock Hotel, on Crewe Road, Nantwich.

And the rain failed to stop a stream of visitors who came to see elegant, hand-built steam and diesel locomotives, steam traction and stationary engines before queuing for steam train rides on the site’s near half mile of track, complete with signal box.

Ice-cream, home-made cakes and a BBQ ensured the party atmosphere for young and young-minded riders was never dampened.

The club, which has about 75 members, was originally started in Haslington 50 years ago.

It later transferred to land opposite the Vagrant’s cricket club in Willaston, before arriving on its current site about 25 years ago.

The club meets once a month on a Tuesday and also runs 13 public days a year on Sundays between April and September.

Cllr Marren, who attended with Mayoress Belinda Marren and two of his grandchildren, said: “The Gala day was a really good family day out brightening up the dismal weather.

“The kids really enjoyed the train rides and looking at the engines and what I hadn’t realised is that the club offers a birthday party option that I’m definitely going to book for next year.

“We had a really nice time.”

SCMES Club Nights are the first Tuesday of the month at 7.45pm. Club membership is £40/year

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
