fire crews tackle farmland blaze at Burleydam

Fire crews from across South Cheshire tackled a large farmland blaze near Audlem today as tinder-dry grass went up in flames.

The fire broke out at around 4.20pm today on land off Lodmore Lane, in Burleydam, near Audlem.

These dramatic pictures show firefighters from Crewe, Audlem, Nantwich and Whitchurch teaming up at the incident as huge clouds of smoke billowed across the countryside, seen miles around.

The fire involved hay, straw and a combine harvester. It’s not clear how it started.

Firefighters used hose reels and fire beaters and were assisted by local farmers in containing the fire.

The blaze was extinguished by 6pm and crews remained at the scene for 30 minutes to dampen down.

It’s the latest blaze to take hold of farmland or heathland in the North West and Staffordshire in recent weeks.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
