Police divers have been searching the River Weaver in Nantwich today (May 7) amid reports of a missing person.
Police, fire crews and paramedics have been on the scene most of the afternoon at Riverside on the west side near Mill Island in Nantwich.
Witnesses say the search centres on a missing man in his 60s believed to have been seen in the river, but emergency services have not confirmed these reports.
A large area of the river bank off Riverside has been cordoned off since around 6pm while searches continue, and a police helicopter has been seen overhead.
One witness who contacted Nantwich News and lives close to the scene, said officers were also checking back gardens of properties which overlook the river.
The witness told us: “Apparently it is a gentleman in the water with grandchild.
“He went under the water and did not surface.
“Police dogs are here too. Fireman now getting a boat out and are draining water from the Weir area.”
Other unconfirmed reports say a young girl was pulled from river by two men.
We have contacted Cheshire Police and Cheshire Fire Service and are awaiting an update.
