Key Nantwich roads are to be closed to allow for highway repairs and improvements, said Cheshire East Council.
Highways teams are targeting busy routes including Station Road, Prachitts Row, and Millstone Lane with work beginning this weekend, March 25 – just five days before the start of Nantwich Jazz Festival.
They aim to improve pedestrian and road safety through an upgrade of zebra crossings, resurfacing and new road markings.
Work on Station Road and Prachitts Row should be completed before Easter weekend and the start of the Nantwich Jazz Festival, says Cheshire East.
After the festival, work will continue on Millstone Lane with resurfacing and lining.
Pavement works, barrier repairs, sign repairs and gully cleaning will take place while roads are closed.
Paul Traynor, Cheshire East’s strategic commissioning manager for highways, said: “This is a busy area of Nantwich, with pedestrians using it as one of the main routes into the town, along with two supermarkets, local businesses and the train station – so the zebra crossing upgrades will help to make it more pedestrian friendly.
“Enhancing the safety for pedestrians and drivers on Cheshire East roads is of paramount importance to us and the resurfacing and relining work will improve the condition of the road.
“We are advising people to plan their journeys accordingly and I would like to thank them in advance for their patience.”
Temporary signals will be in place on Station Road and Prachitts Row between March 25 and 29 March between 9.30am and 3.30pm.
Road closures will take place on three separate evenings for carriageway resurfacing and lining. Access to properties and emergency vehicles will be maintained.
The work will involve road closures to protect the safety of members of the public and workforce.
Cheshire East Council said signed diversions will be in place and diversion routes can be found online at www.roadworks.org
Local residents and businesses have been notified and access arranged around the works.

Phase 1 – road closure
Planned work is on Sunday March 25 to Tuesday March 27.
March 25 from 8am to 5pm, Station Road between Pillory Street roundabout and Aldi will be closed.
March 25/26 from 5pm to 6am, Station Road and Prachitts Row will be closed.
March 26/27 from 7pm to 6am, Station Road between Pillory Street roundabout and Aldi will be closed.
A signed diversion will be in place via Pillory Street South, Wellington Road, Audlem Road, Peter Destapleigh Way, Elwood Way, Newcastle Road, London Road, London Road roundabout, Hospital Street and will also operate in reverse.
Phase 2 – road closure
Planned work is on Tuesday March 27 to Wednesday March 28.
Prachitts Row, between Pratchitts Row roundabout and Aldi, will be closed 7pm to 6am.
A signed diversion will be in place via Pillory Street South, Wellington Road, Audlem Road, Peter Destapleigh Way, Elwood Way, Newcastle Road, London Road, London Road roundabout, Hospital Street and will also operate in reverse.
Phase 3 – road closure
Planned work is on Wednesday March 28 to Thursday March 29. Pratchitts Row roundabout will be closed between 7pm and 6am.
A signed diversion will be in place via Pillory Street South, Wellington Road, Audlem Road, Peter Destapleigh Way, Elwood Way, Newcastle Road, London Road, London Road roundabout, Hospital Street and will also operate in reverse.
Phase 4 – road closure
Millstone Lane South roundabout work will be completed in April. Date to be confirmed.

Who is responsible for the Nantwich Road closures over the busy Easter Period and Jazz Festival which brings thousands of people into the Town.
I am well aware that the roads have to be repaired but surely a better time could have been chosen.
