Female team - Nantwich Vipers 2018

Nantwich Cricket Club has launched its first ever female team, called Nantwich Vipers.

The Whitehouse Lane has already recruited a number of girls and women, and are entering the Vipers in to the Cheshire Women’s Cricket League.

Girls as young as 12 are in the squad, and Vipers coach Lee Prince said age was no barrier for those interested in trying out.

The female team trains at Brine Leas School in Nantwich every Thursday from 7pm.

Lee believes the new Nantwich outfit can achieve success by building on the growing interest shown in the game nationally.

“England’s women cricketers enjoyed a great success in 2017, and the women’s game is without doubt on the up,” he said.

“The club felt this is the right time to take this step.”

The girls will compete in Division Three of the league this coming season.

“We have girls as young as 12 – age is not an issue.

“Anybody can give it a try. We will start out with just the one team, and we aim to arrange some junior girls’ games for the younger Vipers.

“If things grow and there is a demand – and we are confident there will be – then we would hope to field a second XI soon.”

Chairman Wayne Morgan added: “We feel it’s the next step for Nantwich Cricket Club to have a ladies team, and we at the club are committed to making them as
successful as all our other senior teams.

“We want to achieve Premiership Woman’s Cricket at Nantwich in the future.

“We have everything in place and with Lee at the helm, and the support we will give him, we feel its very achievable.”

Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
