brine leas choir off to venice thanks to County Group donation

Christmas has come early to friends in a Nantwich school choir and band after receiving a £1,000 donation towards their trip to Venice.

The money, donated by The County Group, means Brine Leas School Choir and its Concert Band, can look forward to a trip of a lifetime next summer.

More than 40 youngsters will travel to Venice next summer, visiting famous landmarks including the Opera House, Basilica and Doge Palace.

The pupils, aged 11 to 17, are rehearsing every Wednesday for their five-day tour of Venetian churches and piazzas.

Fundraising has taken place since last September when a garden party made £1,180 and with The County Group’s donation the trip can become a fully-rounded cultural experience.

Brine Leas music and drama teacher Gemma O’Donnell said: “The money will allow the pupils to do so much more in Venice.

“They can soak up the culture and create treasured memories and we couldn’t be more grateful to The County Group for its kind support.

“We would love to hear from other local businesses. Their donations will go towards future trips.”

On December 14, the choir will be in harmony for a Christmas concert at 7pm in St Mary’s Church, Nantwich which is free for the community to enjoy.

Gemma, a former Malbank school pupil, added: “Films like Pitch Perfect and programmes like Britain’s Got Talent have given choirs a fresh and modern image.

“We have no trouble attracting recruits and they are super-excited about next year’s trip.”

The County Group, which has its headquarters in Crewe, has community broking at the heart of its strategy and is a supporter of several local clubs and charitable organisations.

Head of Marketing Claire Smith said: “There’s a fantastic camaraderie among the young performers and children from different age groups, who wouldn’t ordinarily mix, but are great friends.

“Many of our employees and clients live in Nantwich and this was another way of giving back to the town and supporting a really special school activity promoting team spirit and friendship.”

It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
