Amy Tomlinson celebrating her A Level results success at Malbank

School staff and pupils in Nantwich are celebrating after another strong performance in A level exams by Malbank and Brine Leas.

Many students are now lining up places at top universities around the country after picking their results today.

Students at Malbank School and Sixth Form College are celebrating after a quarter of all A Level grades achieved were A or A*, with high flying students including Gemma Atkins and Eleanor Austin who gained A*, A, A.

Molly Ann Jones (pictured, below) achieved A*, A and a B, and Amy Tomlinson (pictured, right) got two A*s, a B and an A* in an EPQ and will study at Cambridge.

Malbank headteacher Jeannette Walker said: “It’s great to see academic high fliers excel and progress to prestigious universities but it’s equally rewarding to see students of all abilities doing well.

“In our Sports Academy students performed very well with nearly 70% of all grades equivalent to A* or A.

“Similarly, on our vocational courses in general 88% or all grades were equivalent to A* to B grades.”

John Harrison, Director of Sixth Form, added: “We are particularly pleased even though some subjects were being assessed under the new more challenging syllabi, 28 out of 31 courses achieved a 100% pass rate indicating success across the curriculum.

“We were particularly delighted with the Psychology results, where 73% of students achieved an A or A* with nearly all students bettering their targets.”

Students going to university have selected a range of courses including Law, English Literature, Geography, Performing Arts, Human Nutrition, Psychology, Business Management, Fashion, Graphics, Food, Drama, Marketing, Accounting and Nursing.

Chair of Governors Scott Harding said: “It’s great to see our students have been inspired by teaching across the curriculum and we hope that they will go on and continue to make us as proud of them as we are today.

“I’d like to congratulate them and thank the staff for their hard work and commitment to our students.”

There was similar success at Brine Leas, where more than 50% of entrants received a grade of A*, A or B, while 75% gained A* to C grades.

Brine Leas headteacher Andrew Cliffe said: “We are delighted that students, supported by their families and teachers, have done so well this year.

“In the light of so many changes to ‘A’ levels, and in some subjects, with very little guidance from the examination boards and no past papers, students have done incredibly well.

“On top of OFSTED’s outstanding designation for BL6 it rounds off a very good year.”

First to receive her results, Miriam Karim ........they were excellent!

Some subject areas like Art, Textiles, Government and Politics, Sociology, Law, Further Maths and the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) all achieved at least 75% of students gaining a B, A or A* grade.

Notable successes include Ryan Kenyon, Fergal Madden and Miriam Karim (pictured, above) who all achieved at least 3 top A* grades at A level.

Many others also performed beyond expectation such as Grace Finneren, Zoe Shufflebotham, Connor Riddell, Lois Blakeman and Luke Burns.

Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

  1. Paul Peters says:

When a school says “equivalent to” they mean BTEC not A level and more importantly they are desperate i.e. in trouble. When it says “Sports Academy” they mean SEVEN count them SEVEN boys at the football academy. 70% of 7 isn’t very much is it? Damned lies and statistics etc. So fed up of schools playing the stats game thinking we are stupid. Stand up and be counted for goodness sake
