A radical plan to axe all subsidised evening and Sunday bus services, is being considered by Cheshire East Council.

The proposal, which will now go out for a 10-week consultation, is designed to save the authority more than £1.5 million.

However, it could hit many passengers including those who rely on night-time and Sunday services for shift work.

The proposals were presented to Cheshire East’s Cabinet today (May 9).

They include discontinuing buses running on evenings and Sundays, as Cheshire East says these are the least used subsidised services.

Cllr David Brown, Cheshire East Council cabinet member for highways and infrastructure, said: “Changing the way services operate is always a very complex issue.

“Naturally, the council wants to weigh up the needs of all our service users for such an important consultation.

“So we are determined to take every possible opportunity to get the message that we want to hear your opinions out there.

“We will still be investing more than £2 million in subsidised bus services.”

During the consultation – which starts on Thursday May 18 – the public will be able to give their views online at www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/busreview and on paper-based surveys at libraries and customer service centres.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
