A woman was killed when her car careered off a Nantwich road and ploughed into a fence post.
The 76-year-old was driving along Peter Destapleigh Way in Stapeley when the accident happened.
It’s believed there were no other vehicles involved and police are investigating how the silver Volkswagen Polo came off the road.
The crash happened at 8.15am on Saturday (February 18).
Police and paramedics closed the road between London Road and Pear Tree Field, near the Cronkinson Farm pub.
The a 76-year-old woman, from Oldwood in Worcestershire, was taken to Leighton Hospital but she was pronounced dead on arrival.
A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “The victim’s next of kin have been notified and they are currently being supported by specialist family liaison officers.
“Officers have spoken to a number of people in relation to the incident and are not looking for further witnesses at the current time.”
Terrible news.
Nantwich News – PLEASE don’t undermine the seriousness of the story by using archaic phrases such as “woman driver”. If the driver had been male, I very much doubt it would say “man driver”. The counterpart to ‘male’ is ‘female’.
