Pupils from Pear Tree Primary in Stapeley are celebrating after winning a trophy for the Nantwich Education Partnership Business Enterprise competition.
Youngsters from Year 4, who won through the initial school-based heats, headed to Brine Leas to face one last challenge.
They presented their finished recycled products to two local ‘Dragon’s Den’ style business leaders.
The ‘Pear Tree Pomsters’, comprising of Zach, Chloe, Maisie, Joe and Oliver, created a saleable product made of recycled goods.
They wrote and rehearsed a presentation for the ‘Dragons’ and produced posters to publicise their product – all in an hour and a half!
Pear Tree class teacher Chris Sykes said: “The brief was to design a new product, not to reuse the idea they had before Christmas.
“The children were able to do some preparation before the day and come up with ideas.
“But the intention was that they did not arrive with ready made products, products were to be made on the day.
“The children produced sock puppets with interchangeable eyes, teeth and hair – and even modelled one as a dragon and presented it to the judges!
“My class at Pear Tree has thoroughly enjoyed the whole of the enterprise project and it has brought so much purpose to the linked writing, design and maths elements.
“For the Year 4 children, it was a big challenge to stand up and present to strangers but the ‘Dragons’ didn’t really breath fire!
“They were very fair to the children while still expecting a mature understanding around such topics as profit and loss, unit price and team work!”
Organisers of the event added: “It has been a great opportunity to showcase the whole town’s enterprising skills.
“On this occasion, the Pomsters of Pear Tree came away with the trophy but every team was fantastic and showed the power creativity, teamwork and determination can have, we are really proud of them.”
