A Nantwich youngster has won a contest to switch on the town’s Christmas Lights this weekend.

Eight-year-old Lilyanna won with her answer of 2,000 when trying to guess the number of lights on the star which will top the town’s Christmas tree.

The tree, sponsored by Applewood Independent, will be the centre piece of an array of lights around the town for the festive season.

Lilyanna will be joined on stage by Nantwich Olympic heroes Bryony Page and Andrew Small for the switch-on this Saturday, November 19.

Former Brine Leas pupil Page won a silver medal on the trampoline at Rio, while wheelchair racer Andrew Small, also a former Brine Leas student, scooped a bronze.

Also on stage will be singer Thea Gilmore and the Mayor of Nantwich Cllr Andrew Martin to officially start the Christmas celebrations in Nantwich.

The fun will begin at 3.30pm kicking off with local singer Callum Wright, followed by carols with Nantwich Young Voices, and another local talent Josh Whittaker takes to the stage at 4.30pm.

Proceedings will come to a close with the lights being switch on followed by a firework finale at 5.30pm.

There will also be characters walking about, fairground rides, refreshments, a giant screen sponsored by South Cheshire College and more.

Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Nantwich is such a friendly market town – we love to visit at least once a month. The Christmas lights switch on is a great event as there’s so much going on – you have to get there early though. So looking forward to seeing Thea Gilmore again and hoping to catch a glimpse and listen to amazing Callum Wright – fantastic !
