A51 Bypass crash

A serious accident on the A500 caused chaos for thousands of drivers from Crewe and Nantwich during rush hour today (November 7).

The crash between a van and a lorry has closed the A500 at Barthomley in both directions.

Police say it happened at 5.37am, when emergency services were called to the scene.

The collision had blocked the road.

The van driver has been taken to the Royal Stoke Hospital by ambulance with serious injuries.

The A500 is closed at its junction with the M6 junction 16 while emergency services work at the scene.

Insp Jez Taylor said: “It is advisable to avoid the area and take alternative routes.

“I’d like to thank motorists for their patience and cooperation while we deal with this serious incident.”

Anyone with information about the collision can contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 82 of 7 November 2016.
