Nantwich Town councillors have donated equipment to local officers in a bid to target speeders in the town.

A Speed Indicator Device and a speed gun has been presented to Nantwich Police as part of the local Community Speed Watch scheme.

The equipment was presented to PCs Matt Stonier and Marc Harley (pictured) by Nantwich Mayor Cllr Andrew Martin at a recent meeting.

Community Speed Watch schemes are supported by the police in partnership with local communities.

They aim to reduce death and injury on the roads, improve quality of life for local communities, reduce traffic noise and pollution, and increase public awareness of inappropriate speed.

Community Speed Watch volunteers are trained by police to use hand-held speed guns to monitor vehicles at identified locations in the town.

No attempt is made to stop any moving vehicle or engage drivers in conversation.

Volunteers work in pairs to maintain a log of vehicles exceeding an agreed speed limit.

Registration numbers, times, date and location are also recorded and verified by both volunteers.

Police then send warning letters to the registered keepers of vehicles and target persistent offenders for future enforcement.

PC Stonier, of Nantwich Police, said: “We’re very grateful to Nantwich Town Council for donating this equipment and shows what a great working partnership we have.

“This kit will really help the Speed Watch scheme we have up and running, and will have a real impact on making our roads safer.”

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
