Melanie Howard, TEDx event in Nantwich

Inspirational speakers are lining up to perform at Nantwich’s first ever TEDx event.

Organisers are staging TEDxNantwich at the Civic Hall on November 6.

And curator Melanie Howe hopes it will provide visitors with great ideas to better themselves.

Mel (pictured) spent 12 years travelling around the world before settling in Nantwich to start a family.

She said: “The TEDx project started over a cup of coffee with a friend who posed the question ‘What would it take to bring a TED event to the area?’

TEDxNantwich has been organised by local volunteers including students from Reaseheath College and South Cheshire College.

All the talks will be filmed by young entrepreneur Jordan Drayton and uploaded onto the TEDx Youtube channel.

Some local businesses will also have stalls open during the event.

Speakers already lined up include Dr Jonathan Griffiths, GP and Chair of NHS Vale Royal Clinical Commissioning Group, with a talk title ‘Choosing to be a Jack of All Trades, not a master of one’.

Catherine Sandland’s talk will explore the power of speaking up and taking action as a means of influencing and effecting change.

Sarah Short’s talk is on the education system she feels is not teaching something critical to the future of our children – How to create your own income and not rely on employment.

Andrew Fewtrell, who auditioned hanging of a cliff in Europe, describes himself as a “good bloke to have around in a tight spot.” His talk aims to get everyone thinking in his approach to taking risks.

Philippa Richford, a local radio presenter, will stage a topical talk ‘Putting the Fun in Funeral!’

Sara Knowles’ talk will discuss trading across cultures and her experiences of living and working in Slovenia in the mid 90s.

Andrew Thorpe, born in Leeds, who’s golf pro brother inspired and coached him, will present a talk titled ‘You may be more interesting than you think you are’.

Local businesswoman Debbie Hayes is joining the Tedx team to speak about breaking the cultural addiction of business to create greater presence to nurture our future generations.

Tickets for the event, from 1.30pm to 5.30pm on November 6, are limited to 100 people.

TEDx talks are independently organised event
s designed in the spirit of ideas worth spreading.

Talks, video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection.

It started as a four-day conference in California 30 years ago, and has since grown to become a global movement.

Some of the world’s leading thinkers and doers have spoken for free at TED events, including Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, and Sir Richard Branson.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
