Town councillors are to explore bylaws in a bid to crackdown on fly-posting in Nantwich.
Many organisers use posters, notices and flyers on windows, lamp-posts, walls and phone boxes to promote events.
But Nantwich Town councillors say many do not return to remove them after the event – with some left for years, creating eyesores.
Cllr Arthur Moran told the town council last night (July 14): “People put these posters in empty shop windows, on phone boxes.
“The problem is they often don’t return to clean up the mess.
“It’s a good idea to promote some of our major events like the Nantwich Show and Big Day Out.
“And when the fair came to the Barony Park recently, they put posters everywhere but did come back and take them down.
“But we need to look at the use of bylaws and do something about those who do not clean up afterwards.”
Councillors agreed that a bylaw should be considered.
The town clerk added: “We will make enquiries into what grounds there are for a bylaw.
“We will ask what powers Cheshire East Council and Nantwich Town Council have to implement a bylaw like this to enforce the removal of notices if people are in contravention of the law.”
