Six cyclists rode across five nations to help raise more than £5,000 for the Wingate Children’s Centre near Nantwich.

The team completed their challenge to cycle a 520-mile route through Wales, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and England.

Battling wind, rain and gruelling terrain, including the infamous Horse Shoe Pass in Snowdonia, the team of four men and two women from Nantwich area covered a personal distance of almost 200 miles each in 48 hours.

Riders, led by Souplesse Cycling Tours, pedalled in pairs for two-hour stints before swapping with team mates, completing the ride in a non-stop relay format.

Rider Scott Heirene of sponsors Scott James Plumbing and Heating, said: “The challenge has been incredibly tough, we’ve all trained hard for the cycling.

“But nothing prepares you for the sleep deprivation or cycling against driving rain in the pitch black darkness!

“We’ve had great camaraderie though, and have kept each other’s spirits up throughout the
whole ride and even managed to squeeze in a Guinness on the ferry – which we almost missed!

“There were times when we have probably all questioned why we are putting ourselves through this.

“But at the back of our minds was The Wingate Centre and all the inspirational children and families that will benefit from the money raised – that was certainly a good enough reason to push ourselves!”

The ride was funded by local companies including title sponsors Crystal Legal and Graham Heath Construction as well as Shallcross DevelopmentsScott James Plumbing and
Heating, Baywater HealthcareConcert Networks, HJ Lea Oakes and  Webbs House Furnishers.

“We are overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and support from the local community to help make this event happen.

“And we are incredibly grateful to our riders who really have pushed their bodies to the limit to enable children with disabilities to come and have a holiday with us.”

Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
