Quiz - BCR managing director Phil Wood hands over the trophy to the NatWest business banking team

General knowledge buffs flocked to Nantwich to take part in a British-themed quiz raising cash for hospice care.

The event, organised by insolvency specialists BCR in Nantwich, drew a record crowd of accountants, bankers and lawyers to Residence Restaurant on Mill Street.

A total of £800 was raised which will be split between St Luke’s Cheshire Hospice in Winsford and Douglas Macmillan Hospice at Trentham.

Managing director Phil Wood, who was at the helm as quiz-master, said: “The evening continues to grow in popularity and this year we had another full house.

“All tables were sold to teams from local businesses who also gave generously to the raffle.

“I am delighted the quiz has become so firmly established on the social calendar and raises such a sizeable sum for the hospices.”

Teams paid £50 to take part and were tested on their knowledge of all things British including questions on sport, geography, TV, music and current affairs.

There was further success for brainbox bankers from NatWest whose business team carried off the winner’s cup for the third time.

Other local companies attending included Weaver Accountants, Howard Worth, Barclays, Handelsbanken, Beswicks Legal, Bowcock & Pursail, Grindeys, Myers and Luis Taylor.

Mr Wood added: “This was our fifth annual event and once again we were delighted to see so many businesses support the evening.

“There was good-humoured rivalry and some great banter between professionals from quite different backgrounds but they were united in an effort to support the hospices.”

Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
