new Lifestyle Centre in Crewe

The new £15 million Crewe Lifestyle Centre pool has had to close – due to a substance leak.

Cheshire East Council bosses admitted the main pool will have to close at their flagship facility for several days, just a few weeks after opening.

They say the problem has been caused by a leak of a harmless substance from a hydraulic mechanism which powers a lift used to help swimmers with disabilities to access the pool.

Swimming lessons take place in the smaller, learner pool are continuing as normal.

A Cheshire East Council spokesman said: “Any building of this nature is bound to experience some teething problems and we apologise for the inconvenience this may have caused to swimmers, swimming clubs and schools.

“We hope to have the fault remedied as soon as possible but it will take a number of days before the pool is back in use.

“The small pool is operating to its normal timetable and is not affected.”

The council and Everybody Sport and Recreation, the trust responsible for operating the leisure side of the new centre, will issue updates via social media and information bulletins.

Kier Construction handed over the new £15million facility in February.

As well as the two swimming pools, there is a state-of-the-art gymnasium, an adaptable sports hall, a community hub with day-care facilities for people with special needs, including a sensory room and garden, the town’s library and café.

The community hub is run by Cheshire East Council, while the sports and leisure section is operated by Everybody Sport and Recreation.

The centre, off Prince Albert Street, was opened to the public in early April.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
