The owners of Overwater Marina near Nantwich has bought two Elephant Bikes for boat owners to use to cycle to Audlem.

The bikes, saved from landfill by the Crizvac Charity, are refurbished from former Royal Mail stock.

For every bike bought, the charity sends one out to Malawi to provide sustainable transport and raise funds for a children’s centre.

The charity also acts as a social enterprise and work with HM Prison Service, rehabilitating offenders who are trained to re-build the bikes and service them.

The money raised for selling the bikes also contributes to orphan care and local primary school education.

Colin Ainley, marina supervisor at Overwater, who was instrumental in buying the bikes, said: “Myself and all the staff at Overwater are really excited to be involved in such a rewarding project.

“Our moorers will be able to use the bikes both on the marina and around and about.

“The use of them is free but we are asking for a donation which will be used to purchase more bikes and be channelled back to the charity.”

Overwater Marina already hosts The Audlem Lass Boat Service, which raises funds for the RNLI.

And it runs the Overwater Wheelyboat project, which provides access to the waterways for wheelchair users.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
