RSPCA Stapeley seal Moon released back to wild

These heart-warming pictures show the moment a seal cared for by Nantwich RSPCA staff for eight months was released back into the wild.

The seal, a female named Moon, was released at Rhos-on-Sea, in North Wales.

She was rescued from Rossall Beach, near Blackpool, last August when she became stranded.

Moon was released alongside a second seal, a male named Sun, who was rescued from Ainsdale Beach in Merseyside, also in August.

Lee Stewart, manager at the RSPCA’s Stapeley Grange Wildlife Centre in Nantwich, where the seals were treated, said: “Both Moon and Sun arrived to us last August tired and stressed.

“We helped them recover by tube-feeding them a rehydration solution, and from there they progressed onto fish soup and then were eventually able to take whole fish.

“They were transferred to the RSPCA’s East Winch Wildlife Centre, in Norfolk, where they had more room to socialise.

“When they had gained enough weight they came back to the west coast to be released.

“It is a long process but it is definitely worth it, especially if you are lucky enough to experience that heartwarming moment when they are returned back to the wild.”

The RSPCA is a charity and we rely on public donations to exist.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
