A Willaston woman is shaving her head for charity to support her mum who is losing her hair in a cancer battle.
Louise Maple, 34, wants to raise funds for Cancer Research UK while her mum Kay, also from Willaston, fights breast cancer.
Kay, 57, who works at Malbank School and Sixth Form College in Nantwich, was diagnosed with lobular breast cancer in October.
She had a mastectomy and lymph node removal and started chemotherapy four weeks ago.
And when Kay’s family noticed her hair beginning to fall out, Louise decided to act.
“Louise said she wanted to support me in some way, so she decided to finally go ahead with it,” said Kay.
“She has been threatening to shave her head for charity for a while as our family knows too many people who have been diagnosed with cancer.
“I have four friends at work who have been through cancer.
“Louise and Laura have a close school friend who has secondary ovarian cancer and Laura’s father-in-law is currently very poorly with secondary cancer.”
Mum-of-two Louise, who works part time as a Practice Nurse in Alsager, underwent her own surgery three years ago for malignant melanoma.
The former Malbank School student continues to visit the Christie Hospital every three months.
“My younger daughter Laura is planning on doing the Race for Life Pretty Muddy Run 5k in the summer with six friends at Hanley Forest Park for Cancer Research,” added Kay.
So far Louise has raised £760 for Cancer Research UK through her Just Giving page, but she hopes to improve considerably on that figure.
