Police are again advising shoppers in Nantwich to be wary of purse thieves.
Officers from Crewe Local Policing Unit issued the warning following a number of incidents in local supermarkets.
They say there has been a number of thefts in Crewe Local Policing are including Nantwich, Crewe, Sandbach, Alsager, Middlewich, and Holmes Chapel.
PCSO Lawrence Price said: “The offenders are noting pin numbers when the victims make a purchase at the till.
“Then when they are distracted, they take the opportunity to steal their purse and use their cards before the victim realises their purse is missing and money has gone from their account.
“Our advice is for shoppers to keep their purses safe in their handbags and their handbags zipped and secured at all times.”
Purse bells which alert shoppers to would be thieves have been distributed to hundreds of elderly people in Nantwich as a deterrent.
Some are still available from the help desk at Crewe Police Station or a Police crime prevention stall hosted by PCSO Tracy Burndred at Tesco, Vernon Way, Crewe, this Saturday November 21 from 10am to 2pm.
Anyone who sees suspicious activity should contact Cheshire Police on 101 and alert store security staff.
