Government Minister George Eustice will be at Reaseheath College in Nantwich next week at a major food conference.

And Defra is expected to make a key announcement at the event on the Government’s plan to encourage public procurement.

This will mean local public authorities being urged to buy goods and services from local organisations.

Mr Eustice, Minister for Farming, Food and the Marine Environment, will give keynote speech on a 25-year plan for British food and farming.

Gordon Friend, head of Food Security and Sustainability at DEFRA, will highlight the Government’s plans for Public Procurement in food and catering.

Other speakers will include Cheshire East Council Leader Councillor Michael Jones, set to talk about Cheshire East’s Food Enterprise Zone pilot scheme.

And Councillor Louise Gittins will be presenting CWAC’s view on cross border partnerships and how this can increase rural regeneration locally.

Mr Eustice will also be digging the first sod for Reaseheath College’s new project, a national centre for agricultural technology.

Other speakers include Ian Stenton, head of Sustainability at Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust, and Francis Lee, from Cheshire and Warrington LEP, on the European Structural Investment Fund.

Reaseheath College Principal Meredydd David will close the all day event.

The Food Procurement conference will be held at Reaseheath College on Thursday November 26.
