Niall McGregor, captain of Crewe & Nantwich RUFC, who beat Whitchurch

Crewe & Nantwich RUFC notched their first elusive home win of the season with a 16-12 victory over Dudley Kingswinford.

A large crowd at the Vagrants in Willaston cheered on Crewe, who made late changes with flanker Josh Latham making his first start, Martin Davies starting in the 2nd row and Tim Cowap on the wing.

Alex Gammage and Eddie Spibey joined the bench.

Crewe started well, controlled possession and Jamie Little kicked a penalty for an early lead.

Dudley responded and after taking the ball through a few phases they moved it wide, then switched to the other side for their right wing to score a well worked try in the corner.

Crewe applied pressure in the Dudley 22 and the visitors conceded another penalty for offside to allow Little to kick another penalty to the right of the posts.

The pressure continued and Little kicked his third penalty from the halfway line with an excellent kick to make it 9-5 at half time.

Dudley took the lead early in the second half when they moved the ball to the right wing, and from a ruck the ball was switched to big centre, Shillingford, who crashed over near the posts for a converted try.

Crewe were fired in to action, and they regain the advantage soon after.

From a lineout, captain and flanker Niall McGregor led a drive driven down the channel.

The ball was delivered to scrum-half Kieran Allsop, passed to Little and then Gammage, who ghosted through the Dudley backline to score to the left of the posts, converted by Little.

Dudley’s bid to hit back was stopped when they went down to 14 men after a yellow card in the last 10 minutes.

Crewe & Nantwich Man of the Match was No 8 Ben Ham, who led the forwards.

Next week, Crewe are on the road with a challenging match against Hereford where they were narrowly beaten last season.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
