Hundreds of cyclists are expected to follow the funeral cortege of Shavington man Michael Beeston when they honour him later this week.

Michael, who worked in Nantwich, was killed after a collision with a car as he cycled home late at night.

The popular 44-year-old died later in hospital after the accident at the junction of Nantwich Road, Mill Street and South Street on October 18.

Now in honour, cyclists are invited to ride behind the funeral cortège at 11.15am this Friday October 30.

The cortege will leave from the accident spot on Mill Street and drive to Crewe Crematorium.

Friends are hoping hundreds will turn out and attend and traffic will be slow.

Ben Wye, of Active Travel in Crewe, said on Facebook: “Please join us, respect the cortège and be aware of potential delays.”

Michael, or “Beest” as he was known among friends, had worked for Willaston-based G & R Engineering Nantwich Ltd for almost three decades.

A Facebook page has been set up in his memory where friends have been posting their tributes and recollections of “Beest”.

It has more than 750 members.

Friends also made a “Beest bucket” for Michael’s local watering holes, The Vine in Shavington and Willaston Club.

All money collected will be donated to Michael’s dad Pete to be forwarded to a charity of his choice.

Scores of flowers have been left on a bike placed at the scene of the accident by one of his friends, with many messages in tribute.

The funeral takes place at 12 noon on Friday October 30, with drinks after at The Vine pub.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

  1. To be fair, I’m not an organiser at all, just sharing. I am just another crewe person who thinks cycling is a good way to get around town. my respects to family and friends.
