Leighton Hospital Prostate Cancer Support Group has donated £10,000 to the medical imaging department at the hospital.
The money will support the purchase of 10 additional SpeechMagic licenses.
The support group was set up by Mr Gary Steele MBE in 1999 following his own prostate cancer diagnosis.
Now it has raised more than £500,000 in 16 years, with £350,000 donated into Mid Cheshire Hospitals to treat cancer patients across the region.
SpeechMagic licenses are for the new speech recognition engine within the new IT radiology information system at Leighton Hospital.
The speech engine speeds up workflow, eases bottlenecks associated with medical transcription and reduces delays in issuing approved reports.
Installing this technology allows reports to be automatically added to patients’ electronic records.
This reduces routine typing and boosts productivity.

“Their contribution will allow the Medical Imaging Department to continue providing first-class care, and will be of benefit to so many patients.”
Gary Steele MBE, group chairman, added: “We really wanted to support the new system at Leighton Hospital as it will undoubtedly improve care for cancer patients.
“This new technology will advance diagnosis and treatment, and we’re thrilled to be part of such fantastic progress.”
