Hundreds of young rugby players, parents, coaches and club officials gathered for the official opening of Crewe & Nantwich RUFC’s new pitches.
MP Edward Timpson was on hand to cut the ribbon as the new facilities at the Vagrants ground in Willaston were unveiled.
It was followed by an inaugural match between Crewe & Nantwich U15s against Newcastle-under-Lyme.
Mr Timpson paid tribute to the club for its hard work in realising the ambition of expanding the ground.
“Today is about making rugby as accessible to anyone of any age who has a passion and interest in what is a fantastic sport,” he said.
“To see so many young people from five-year-olds to players in their 50s is fantastic.
“Rugby teaches you a lot, such as playing in a team, never giving up, working hard and being part of something that is really enjoyable.
“I remember a conversation seven or eight years ago about the plans on moving into the neighbouring field, and to see it come to fruition is testament to the hard work of many people here.”
Crewe & Nantwich RUFC Club chairman Alan Sproston added: “I am very proud to be part of this club and it is growing rapidly.
“We’ve got our ladies team starting, our touch rugby taking part, and our juniors.
“A big thanks to all the mums and dads and coaches who do a lot of unsung work every Sunday to encourage these youngsters to play the greatest sport on earth.
“We all appreciate that on behalf of the senior club for all the work they do.”
