new pitches at Crewe & Nantwich RUFC

Crewe & Nantwich RUFC will officially unveil its new pitches at the Vagrants after a 10-year fund-raising campaign.

Club Officials, supporters and players old and new have all chipped in to help raise tens of thousands of pounds to buy and convert additional land into playing facilities.

Now, as the rugby World Cup kicks off, the pitches will officially be opened by MP Edward Timpson, who will cut the ribbon on the bridge which leads to the new area on Sunday (September 20) at 10.30am.

This will be followed by the inaugural game on the new pitch between Crewe & Nantwich Under 15s and close neighbours Newcastle.

Representatives from Cheshire RFU and Crewe & Nantwich RUFC, as well as mascot Sharky from Sale Sharks, will also be there to witness the opening.

Crewe & Nantwich RUFC has been expanding and thriving for years, but has struggled to cater for all the teams in terms of training and matches.

It now has four senior teams, a ladies team and a mini & junior section of more than 275 children.

The new land has allowed the club to add another full size pitch, three pitches suitable for mini rugby, and additional training areas.

The club is also bracing itself for more interest and new players as the World Cup raises the game’s profile further.

Club Chairman Allan Sproston said: “It’s taken a lot of hard work over many years to get to this great day.

“I’d like to thank Sport England, the RFU, Nantwich Town Council and club benefactors for making this possible.

“Club stalwarts, facilities director Craig Randles as well other officials have worked tirelessly over the years to get funding and permissions in place to complete this project.”

Mini & Junior Chairman Nick Price added: “Our thanks go out to all at Brine Leas High School for the use of their land over the years.

“But this new land will enable the mini section to now come home and train at the club on Sunday mornings.”

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
