Andy White, Newcastle Town friendly

Nantwich Town were on the wrong end of an FA Cup shock after being knocked out by Spalding United.

The Dabbers were beaten by the only goal of the game after the hosts pounced on a defensive error.

A header by Andy White (pictured) fell short of his keeper  and Joshua Moreman nipped in for Spalding to fire in on 20 minutes.

A lethargic Nantwich improved after the break, and built plenty of pressure.

Substitute Liam Shotton made a difference, and Chris Smith went close rattling the bar.

Matty Kosylo, Lewis Short and Elliot Osbourne all had decent chances but Spalding defended for their lives.

Phil Parkinson threw tall centre back Mat Bailey into attack in the final few minutes, and he won a few headers.

But the loose ball did not fall kindly, and Evo-Stik First Division South side Spalding held out for a fine win over their opponents a league above them.

Nantwich, who are fourth in Evo-Stik Premier League, are next in action on Saturday September 19 when they welcome second from bottom Grantham Town to the Weaver Stadium.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
