Nantwich Show 2015

The weather held fine, thousands flocked in, and organisers had broad smiles as Nantwich Show once again proved a massive success.

By the end, the show ground at Dorfold Park was bathed much longed-for warm sunshine, and families young and old went home happy.

The annual event, now classed as the biggest one-day show if its kind in the UK, continues to improve in everything it offers.

These shows never go without their hiccups, though.

And when the lights went out on celebrity chef James Martin’s live cooking demonstration in the cheese marquee, it shows there is never a dull moment!

Martin saw the funny side – as did fellow celebrity chefs such as ex Coronation Street star Sean Wilson later in the day as they performed with full lighting restored.

Cheese fans were in heaven as they toured the 83,000 sq ft marquee to taste (and buy) the thousands of samples on offer.

The Mornflake Food Hall next door offered an incredibly wide variety of foods and drinks to try – including some hilariously rude ales!

Crowds flocked around the Main Arena for much of day day to witness horses from around the country competing in a range of classes.

The arena also hosted the vintage and classic car drive through, and a full parade of all the cattle show winners.

More than 400 trade stands were bustlingly busy throughout the day, with plenty of fun and entertainment on offer for youngsters such as Redshift Radio and Wulvern’s family marquee.

Current Nantwich Agricultural Society chairman Michael-John Parkin provided a touching moment, by presenting former chairman John Broomhall with an award.

John has dedicated more than 50 years of his life to the society and the show, and last year was awarded the MBE for his services.

Michael said: “It is a very fitting tribute for all John’s hard work and commitment over many years.

“I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to this event. It is a fantastic representation of team work and community cohesion here in South Cheshire.

“And I thank my fellow directors along with the hundreds of volunteers who give up their time, often months in advance, to help organise and steward.”

There were also long service awards presented to Andrew Ridgway, for 40 years service at BL Dodds & Partners in Audlem, and Richard Read for 25 years service at R&R Vernon & Sons at Burleydam.

Robert Eardley, president of Nantwich and South Cheshire Show, added: “This Agricultural Show, together with the International Cheese Show, both rank as one of the best shows of their type in the country.

“We now attract exhibitors and visitors from all over the world. Our show offers something for everyone, the best of British farming coupled with a full programme of entertainment.”

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

  1. I’ve never been to the Nantwich show because it is always on a weekday. Can’t help but think that more people would go along if it were held at the weekend.

  2. Neill. Peabody says:

Glad all went well for the show and the volunteers who helped.

Would like to help next year?
