plays - Nantwich Players Theatre - The Witches

Nantwich Players bring their season to a close with a wonderfully funny presentation of ‘The Murder Room’, writes Claire Faulkner.

Written by Jack Sharkey, this spoof murder mystery is set in Cheshire and had me laughing out loud throughout the show.

If you can imagine a classic British murder story with fantastic word play, comic capers and constant laugher then you’re almost there.

Directed by Simon Porter, the cast of six give the audience an excuse to be silly, have fun and laugh out loud – which surely can’t be a bad thing for anyone, or offer a better reason to go to the theatre.

The actors definitely looked like they were enjoying themselves throughout the entire production.

If you have tickets to go along, watch the reaction from ‘Mavis Templeton Hollister’ played by Joy O’Hara-Douglas in one of the funniest scenes, when Constable ‘Able Howard’ of Cheshire Constabulary played by Charlie Gobbett arrives and announces there has been a murder.

‘Susan Hollister’ is played superbly by Kirsty Challinor, who has wonderful comic timing and fantastic expressions.

Jonathan Everitt plays ‘Inspector James Crandall’ perfectly. The entire cast worked brilliantly together, and have a production to be proud of.

Murder just shouldn’t be this funny.

‘The Murder Room’ runs at The Players Theatre, on Love Lane, Nantwich, until July 11.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
