Councillor Andrew Martin has been formally elected as the new Nantwich Town Council Mayor.
Cllr Martin has taken over the chains of office from Christine Farrall, who has stepped down as a councillor after 10 years.
Family, friends, colleagues and the town’s councillors gathered at Nantwich Civic Hall for the event.
Cllr Martin, who lives in Stapeley with wife Linda and three children, was formally proposed by Cllr John Lewis and seconded by Cllr David Marren.
He said: “It is a privilege to be elected Mayor of this great town.
“It’s my 10th year on the council, and in that time it has been a pleasure to serve with some excellent Mayors.
“Christine was elected to the council at the same time as me, and I know she will be a hard act to follow!”
Cllr Norma Simpson has been elected as the Deputy Mayoress for 2015-16.
Tributes were also paid to outgoing Mayoress Christine Farrall, who attended around 120 functions in her year in office.
She presented cheques to her chosen charities Nantwich in Bloom, Nantwich Players and Nantwich Museum, after raising money for the local causes during her year in office.
Cllr Arthur Moran said: “Christine has had a hard-working year. She has attended many events, representing the council.
“But she didn’t just attend – she took part in them, helped organise some major ones, which is unique for some Mayors.
“And I am pleased to say she won’t be totally leaving the council as she will be representing us on the Retail Working Group, Nantwich in Bloom, the Civic Society, and Nantwich Litter Group.
“We thanks her for all her hard work and wish her every success in the future.”
Mrs Farrall said: “I’ve enjoyed every minute of it, and I am sure Andrew will make a fantastic Mayor.
“I’ve made many friends for life, and I’d like to thank all the staff at the Civic Centre and my family for supporting me.”
Cllr Martin’s chosen charities for 2015-16 include Nantwich Foodbank, as well as other local causes such as Nantwich Players, Nantwich in Bloom and Nantwich Museum.
A number of new town councillors were welcomed to the first meeting of 2015-16, after the May 7 local elections.
These include Gordon Bartram, Stuart Bostock, Douglas Bowyer-Bates, Diana Hall and Pam Kirkham, who will be serving the North and West ward alongside existing councillors Arthur Moran and Penny Butterill.
Also new to the town council is Peter Groves, one of five councillors serving the South ward alongside Andrew Martin, David Marren, Norma Simpson and John Lewis.
