Darren Thornton, Nantwich Town

Nantwich Town’s new signing Darren Thornton is hoping to be a key part of Phil Parkinson’s side next season following his arrival at the Weaver Stadium, writes Richard Scott.

Thornton signed for the Dabbers from play-off winners Curzon Ashton and plays at the heart of the defence.

The 27-year-old said: “To be honest what he (Parkinson) wants from the club and the direction the club is going in is an exciting prospect to be involved in.

“He said I going to play a pivotal part in his campaign this season, which is another reason why I came.

“
I am 27 now and I just want to be playing football and that is another reason why I am here as well.”

Thornton will get the chance to exhibit his skills to the Dabbers faithful on a fantastic surface at the Weaver Stadium.

The pitch, looked after by Pete Temmen who is up for the FA Groundsmen of the Year award, is something that excites Thornton.

“Of course nobody wants to be playing on school pitches and looking at the surface and it’s still got a couple of weeks to grow.

“If you can’t play football on that surface then you can’t play football on anything.

“It’s something I am looking forward to, playing on that pitch.”

Thornton starred in both the games against the Dabbers last season for the Nash.

In the Dabbers 2-1 defeat to Curzon Ashton, he diverted Harry Clayton’s cross into his own net.

While in the reverse, he featured as a goal from Nicky Platt gave the Dabbers a 1-0 win.

Looking back at the games, Thornton added: “We [Curzon Ashton] played Nantwich home and away last season.

“I think both games Nantwich showed they were a footballing side and when times get tough as well they can dig in and that is a credit to the boys that are still here.

“Hopefully we can take that into next season, it’s only positive.”

Thornton will be playing for the Dabbers for the first time on July 14, when Macclesfield Town visit the Weaver Stadium in their first pre-season friendly.

Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
