Make-up student Sarah Dunn Is Made Up After National MUA Win

A talented mature student from Nantwich is made up after a stunning debut performance at the national Make-Up Artistry (MUA) Awards.

Sarah Dunn, who studies at South Cheshire College, scooped three separate prizes at the showcase event which brought together the best student artists in the country.

The 42-year-old found the Bridal Make-Up competition to be her perfect match after winning first prize for her ‘English Rose’ theme modelled by beauty student Georgia Mitchell.

She followed it up with a second place in the Fantasy Make-Up category and added to her collection of silverware with a prize for finishing second in the competition overall.

It was the first time a South Cheshire College student has entered the MUA awards at Birmingham’s NEC Arena.

Judges who have worked with stars such as Joan Collins and on productions such as the James Bond Classic ‘Quantum of Solace’, were on the panel.

Sarah has picked up the competition bug after developing a talent and passion for make-up and different creative styles.

In January she won the body art category at the college’s in-house annual hair and beauty showdown and also won the body art competition at the AHT North West Regional heat at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens.

Sarah said: “I am absolutely thrilled with this success and I just love entering competitions which gives me the chance to show what I can do under pressure.

“I had 90 minutes to work to a brief for both styles and it was an amazing experience, particularly as the final looks were judged by some of the best make-up stylists in the business.

“I felt proud to represent South Cheshire College at the event which has done so much for me.”

Sarah, who returned to college to study a Beauty Therapy course before switching to the Make-Up Artistry programme, previously worked in childcare.

She now runs her own beauty business, Sarah Dunn Make-Up and Beauty, and is in demand for her bridal make-up styles.

She added: “Business is really taking off and having both beauty and make-up skills up my sleeve is a real bonus.”

Amanda Ashwin, lecturer at South Cheshire College, added: ‘We are so proud of Sarah for her performance at the MUA Awards.

“To win one of the categories and to land two more prizes was a truly wonderful achievement for her first time out at the event.”

Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
