Paul Merton’s Impro Chums return to Crewe Lyceum Theatre on Monday May 25.

The Mock the Week and TV panel star Merton is one of the UK’s most popular comedians.

He is joined by the Impro Chums, Mike McShane, Lee Simpson, Richard Vranch and Suki Webster, on-stage to take suggestions from the audience and spin them into comedy gold.

Improvisation is one of Merton’s favourite comedy forms.

With the potential for high hilarity and extreme absurdity, Merton can’t stay away from performing live.

“There is such a thrill in the notion of playing, say, a Bulgarian lion-tamer trying to explain in fractured Spanish that the yoghurt in the fridge has gone off,” Merton said.

“It’s a complete delight!”

Lyceum’s marketing manager Gemma Whalley said: “Crewe loves a good night of comedy and Paul Merton’s Impro Chums promises to beat the Monday blues with fast-paced, non-stop cascades that will leave the auditorium breathless with laughter.”

Mike McShane has appeared at the Menier Chocolate Factory in Little Shop of Horrors and Stephen Sondheims’ Assassins and his TV work includes Doctor Who, and the new M. Night Shyamalan joint, Wayward Pines.

Lee Simpson became a member of the Comedy Store Players in 1989. He is artistic director of Improbable, one of the country’s foremost theatre companies.

Richard Vranch improvises and writes comedy, and does voiceovers for adverts and documentaries.

He has appeared on Radio 4’s Infinite Monkey Cage with Professor Brian Cox, and he is half of the science/hula-hoop act Dr Hula.

Suki Webster is a regular guest of The Comedy Store Players and has toured the world with Paul Merton And His Impro Chums.

More recently she co-wrote and was assistant director on Paul Merton’s Birth of Hollywood (BBC2).

Tickets for Paul Merton’s Impro Chums are on sale now for Monday May 25 at 8pm.

Tickets are limited and audiences are encouraged to book in advance. Book via the box office or online at www.crewelyceum.co.uk

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
