Christine Farrall and VE Day flags

The flags and bunting are out in Nantwich town centre as preparations gather pace to mark the 70th anniversary of VE Day.

May 8 will mark the end of the Second World War in Europe in 1945.

And the occasion will be commemorated with events across Nantwich and the rest of the UK.

Residents and community groups are being invited to join in with celebrations.

Town council staff have been busy in the town displaying union jack flags around the town square, Pepper Street, High Street and Churchyardside.

The British Legion will join forces with St Mary’s Church Rector Barry Wilson to lead an afternoon of celebrations in the town centre, which will also include performances from Nantwich school children and local artists.

One of the organising group is Nantwich Mayor Christine Farrall.

She said: “I feel honoured to be part of the day, which will be a tribute to those who did so much to defend this country.

“I believe we have put together a fitting programme of entertainment to commemorate this momentous anniversary.”

Local shops will also be asked to take part by decorating their windows.

Nantwich Town Council says the day promises to be an exciting community day for young and old.

A full programme of events is to be released soon. Visit www.nantwichtowncouncil.gov.uk for details.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
