Wrenbury villager Jessie King celebrates 100th birthday

Wrenbury villager Jessie King was given a rousing celebration to mark her 100th birthday.

The centenarian was stunned when bellringers at St Margaret’s Church rang the bells in her honour while Wrenbury Primary schoolchildren sang “happy birthday” on her doorstep.

Jessie said: “My late husband Cuffie was the bell ringer and clock winder at St Margaret’s Church.

“I was overcome to be honoured with a quarter peal from members of the Chester Diocesan Guild of Church Bell Ringers after they had sung to me on my doorstep!”

Mrs King received a card from the Queen, one from Iain Duncan-Smith and a handwritten letter from Libby Lane, the Bishop of Stockport – all sending congratulations on her centenary.

Christine Wain, from Crewe-based housing association Wulvern, presented Jessie with a bouquet of flowers.

Christine said: “Mrs King is a valued customer of our Supported Living service, which includes an emergency alarm system providing support at the push of a button.

“We are delighted to mark this milestone occasion with her.”

Jessie added: “Having the alarm gives me more confidence to carry on living independently.

“I enjoy pottering around the garden and always have my pendant with me for peace of mind.”

When asked her secret to longevity Mrs King said: “I have a busy social life!

“Having dates in the diary to look forward to help keep you going.”

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
