Afghan CC in Kabul

A Nantwich cricketer has launched a bid to collect kit to help a club in Afghanistan realise its dream.

Darren Cook, a member of Nantwich CC for 28 years, was sparked into action after seeing a fund-raising page for the club in Kabul.

As Afghanistan’s national team competes in the current Cricket World Cup down under, this new club in its capital needs help.

Darren (pictured right, bowling), 46, a former Malbank School student, said: “I’m looking to collect kit for a cricket team based in Kabul Afghanistan.

Darren Cook bowling for Toft CC“I have always loved playing cricket and would love to help this club increase its playing size.

“Despite only recently starting cricket in Afghanistan, the country has shot up the leagues and has just won their first game in the cricket world cup.

“And considering the terrible problems they have had recently, with the ongoing conflicts there, I find it truly inspirational they have been so successful so quickly considering such hardship.”

Sayed Shafiq Shafaq, the Kabul club’s team captain, has just left for the World Cup as a replacement for an injured player.

Darren, who now plays for Middlewich CC, has been in touch with contacts in Afghanistan and has found someone in London willing to ship any equipment over.

“They are looking for any type of cricket equipment that is in decent condition so used kit is fine,” said the self-employed contractor.

“They currently have around 25 players in the club but could easily have another 40 to 50 players if they had the equipment.

“I have always loved cricket so would like to help as many people start the sport as possible.

“I would be grateful for a kit that people would like to donate, this can be either used or new kit.

“Anything from clothing to bats, pads and gloves etc. I am willing to collect the kit.”

Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
