A councillor has made an impassioned plea for planning chiefs to stop the second phase of a major development in Nantwich.
Cllr Arthur Moran spoke out about the Gladman Developments application to build another 118 homes on a site off Queens Drive.
It’s the second phase of a development which has sparked major objections from residents and councillors.
Gladman already has permission to build 270 homes in the first phase, after winning an appeal against Cheshire East Council’s original refusal.
Cllr Moran said: “270 houses already being built on open countryside, and before a house has been finished we have another application for 118 more.
“I can tell you now, we are already having problems down Queens Drive with construction vehicles travelling down Welsh Row, Queen’s Drive and Marsh Lane.
“The Section 106 agreement outlines no improvements to highways until 50 houses have been built!
“I sometimes wonder what is going on here.
“There is no news yet of the appeal over the proposed Stapeley development. Has this been kicked into the long grass for political reasons? It would not be good news if this went through just before the election.
“In the meantime, we’re coming under more threat in Nantwich North.
“If these extra 118 houses go through, we will have one single access to almost 400 properties.
“I hope that we object. It’s going to impact on a lot of us in Nantwich.
“They have made one mistake letting the first application through, don’t go making another one.
“And if it goes to appeal, then we fight at the appeal.”
The application for 118 dwellings includes 30% affordable housing, landscaping and public open space.
Nantwich Town Council agreed to register its objection to the application.
The final day for comments to the proposal 14/5841N is Thursday 19th February.

Make you comments known and don’t wine after that the roads are congested and the green spaces are now concreted over for our children.
Some quite emotive language here. Let’s not forget that Nantwich is an extremely desirable place to live, and we’re very lucky to have what we have. Building is part of a town’s development, and inevitably, it causes some temporary disruption. Since I came here 30+ years ago, the town is better, and has retained its character. Look to the inner cities if you want to see true nightmares, or hell.
Fact is there are not enough houses in this country and they are going to have to be built somewhere. This is going to involve building on some of the green belts.
Not enough housing, rubbish! There are plenty of houses, trouble is they have become an asset for the wealthy to buy up with interest rates being at all time low. Then they are, as we all know, rip off the people at the bottom end of the ladder…..Lets see a housing estate built outside “AP”s residence anytime soon….or is AP part of the Gladman empire!!?
I am nothing to do with Gladman or any other building firm. As for building outside my “residence” I would like to see people try to build a housing estate outside my house!!! They would have to a lot of demolition first because I live in the middle of one.
As for there not being a shortage of houses – the population of this country is increasing. How then do you come to the conclusion that the country does not require more houses to be built?
Concur with Cllr Moran – but he must remember that although in Nantwich south we’ve not had a decision on the proposed Stapeley development yet, we have got 300 houses being built at Stapeley Water Gardens, 33 houses allowed on appeal behind the Audlem Road and now 11 houses allowed on appeal behind Wren’s Close.
The whole of Crewe and Nantwich (and Cheshire East), has been badly let down by having no Local Plan and no 5 year land supply. I will let readers decide who is responsible for this failure.
I concur with councillor Morans comments. Living on Queens Drive is now a nightmare, Large Earth Moving Vehicles, etc. are up and down the road from early morning until early evening causing chaos. The noise levels from traffic is ridiculous not mentioning crossing the road which has become dam dangerous at most times of the day, adding to this now developers want to add more traffic to the mix, enough is enough! What happened to traffic surveys done in this area??? Lets see results of these surveys under freedom of information act!?
Gladman in particular are hell bent on destroying the area out of pure greed. Affordable housing, your having a laugh, no, just another patch of lovely greenbelt destroyed for the get rich at someone else’s expense brigade…..the buy to let not live in! What a joke this country is becoming…..roll on higher interest rates!
Living almost anywhere in Cheshire East has become a nightmare, a living one unfortunately! Was a nice place to live not so long ago but it’s more like hell on earth these days, living amongst this plague of planners.
