Drivers will be hit as emergency works are carried out on a collapsed sewer on a busy road in Wrenbury, Nantwich.

Cheshire East Council has closed Wrenbury Heath Road from the junction with Sound Lane to the junction with New Town Road.

The emergency closure is to allow engineers from United Utilities to carry out works to replace a collapsed drain across the carriageway.

Diversions have been set up for motorists.

The alternative route will be via Baddiley Lane C532, Cock Lane, Nantwich Road C532, Sound Lane C512, Station Road C531, Whitchurch Road A530, Wrenbury Heath Road C512, Wrenbury Road C531.

Pedestrian access to properties situated inside the temporary closure zone will be maintained.

The council said vehicular access will be maintained for emergency vehicles and residents where possible.

The works should be completed by tomorrow evening (Thursday February 5), but the closure has been put in place for five days in case works overrun.
