Jon Gold, Chairman of Nantwich Town FC

Nantwich Town chairman Jon Gold has paid tribute to departing manager Danny Johnson.

Johnson, in charge for two seasons, left the Weaver Stadium club last night after talks with the board.

And hours later, Mr Gold told Nantwichnews said it had been a “difficult” decision.

“Obviously these things are always difficult,” he said.

“Danny is a wonderful guy, who has really engaged with Nantwich Town supporters and made a valued contribution to the club during the past two seasons.

“And it’s unfortunate that the commitment, dedication and hard work put in by Danny and his team wasn’t rewarded with more consistent and positive results that their efforts deserved.”

It is that lack of consistency that has dogged Nantwich this season, and left languishing in 19th place in Evo-Stik Premier League, a couple of places above the relegation zone.

Seeing top scorer Aaron Burns leave last week for Conference North side Chorley was another blow.

And it seems for the board that the final straw was the 3-1 defeat away at Ashton United on Saturday, when Nantwich had led 1-0.

The club said a further statement would be issued regarding Johnson’s replacement soon.

It’s believed the club is keen to have someone in place before Nantwich’s clash with Whitby on Saturday.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
