Longton - returning against Silhillians - Joe Gammage, scored a hat-tricl against Earlsdon

Crewe & Nantwich RUFC 1st team returned to winning ways with a crucial 32-20 win over a tough Earlsdon side.

The Vagrants side exacted revenge after being beaten by their opponents back in October.

Earlsdon controlled possession early on and created some good field position.

They converted a penalty for a 3-0 lead.

Shortly afterwards, a stray kick from Earlsdon was fielded by fullback Toby Ward on the halfway line.

He set off to the left, danced around the first defender and outpaced the second on the outside to score a try to the left of the uprights.

On 20 minutes, a decisive break by openside Josh Collins just outside the Earlsdon 22 set up a ruck behind the defensive line.

Scrumhalf Charlie Hutchings moved the ball left and it made its way to Ward who scored his second try, which he converted.

Earlsdon sustained pressure and their left winger set up a ruck in the left hand corner for their centre to crash over for a converted try.

And they scored another soon after, this time through their forwards for another converted try.

Crewe had to hit back quickly after Earlsdon kicked a penalty to go 20-12 ahead.

Just before halftime, from a scrum on the left Kirk Robinson made yards and then the ball was moved swiftly to right winger Joe Gammage, who showed his pace to score in the corner for a Crewe 17 Earlsdon 20 half-time scoreline.

Soon after the restart, Greatbanks put in a sublime kick behind the defence for speedster Gammage to dive on for a try.

Crewe were dominant and most of the second period was played in the Earlsdon half.

In the 65th minute a penalty was awarded to Crewe. No 8 Robinson set up a big forward drive by the pack before prop Ian Merrill dived over.

Robinson was involved in the final score. He picked up at the base and smashed through the defensive line.

Flanker Josh Collins made ground and offloaded to Oli Buckley.

A quick ruck and service by Hutchings saw hooker Eli Woodward draw the last defender and time a perfect pass for Gammage to score his third try in the corner.

Crewe won with a bonus point and continue their challenge for a play-off place.

Next week Crewe play away at Hereford away, who have an unbeaten league home record.

At the Vagrants, Crewe & Nantwich’s high flying 2nd team take on league leaders Macclesfield.

Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
